How To Use The Time Between Jobs Effectively

We will all find ourselves in a transition period at some point in our lives. Some of us will leave education and wait for the right job to come along, while the rest might find themselves between their current job and the next. This period of time can be quite frustrating, especially if you can’t find anything to do.

We will all find ourselves in a transition period at some point in our lives. Some of us will leave education and wait for the right job to come along, while the rest might find themselves between their current job and the next. This period of time can be quite frustrating, especially if you can’t find anything to do.

It isn’t all doom and gloom, and you should consider this time off as a gift. This article will look at a few ways that you can use your time between jobs effectively, and you may even find a way to earn some money in the process.

Organise Yourself

The daily rush that comes with a full time job doesn’t always give us time to sit back and take control of our lives in the way you probably should. Things get displaced and it is hard to keep track of time.

That is why you should probably use any cool off time that you have to re-organise yourself and prepare for what is ahead. This is great if you have a new job on the horizon. You can do your research and get a head start on the things you should know beforehand.

If you don’t have a new job to plan for; however, there are still ways that you can get organised. Make a job-hunting plan, or seek advice on interview techniques to ensure that you are at your best for when the time comes. All of this organization will help you in future, and you may not get another chance at it again.

Start A Project

A lengthy period of time with nothing to do can be quite daunting. It is easy to feel hopeless during times of inactivity, but the important thing to remember is that this is not forever.

There are a ton of things that you can do to distract yourself from this feeling, and a good project can provide you with a purpose. Start a DIY project around the house, or try to aim for a fitness goal.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you are working toward an end goal. This goal will give a sense of achievement, something many of us fail to find when not working. You can look at what you have done and realise that you haven’t wasted your time after all.

Volunteering

In a similar fashion to starting a project, volunteering for an organisation can also give you a sense of purpose. If there is a certain cause that is close to your heart, this time off can provide the spark for you to get out and do some good.

There is no better feeling than helping someone out with on reward, and you can even gain some new experience to put on your resume’. What’s more, employers will question any gaps they find in your work history. They are likely to think more highly of you when they discover that you have spent time volunteering instead of sitting around and doing nothing with your time. Volunteering in your time between jobs is a great way to benefit yourself and others.

Earn Some Quick Cash

Volunteering is a great practice if you can afford to do so, but periods of unemployment can cause you to stretch the purse strings a little. Even with a new job in the near future, money can become tight. Part time jobs are hard to come by, and an organisation is less likely to hire you if you are planning on leaving them in a few weeks’ time. So what are you to do?

Thankfully, there are ways that you can earn money from home. Some people choose to start a blog, but a much easier way to earn a bit of extra cash is through Lebara’s refer a friend plan. This is part of a plan that rewards you for referring new customers to their network. Head to Lebara to find out how to refer and earn some money through this scheme.

Referring a friend through Lebara is a good way to earn extra cash online without leaving the house. This means that there is nothing stopping you from starting your next job on time.

Start A New Hobby

Is there anything that you have always wanted to do but have never found the time? Well, the good news is that you now have that time in spades. Why no use it to get to know yourself a little better?

Most of us choose hobby’s because they fit neatly around our work schedule. Time is no longer an issue when you find yourself without work. Have a good soul search and find out if there is anything that you have always wanted to do and take this opportunity.

A new hobby can provide you with a productive way to spend your time, and can even change your life for the better. You may even meet some new friends in the process.

These hobbies don’t have be too demanding. Also, try not to attempt anything too expensive, especially if your next job isn’t coming up any time soon.

Take Some Time To Relax

The main thing that you should be doing in your time off is taking care of yourself. As mentioned above, you probably won’t get an extended period of time where you don’t have to work so make the most of it.

Have that lie in you have always denied yourself. Binge that T.V series on Netflix. Perhaps you relax better by gardening. Whatever gets you in a good frame of mind, learn to indulge a little and be lazy for a while. Doing so can put in a better frame of mind for your next job and prevent over worrying.

Conclusion

There is nothing wrong with having to spend an extended period between jobs. Just make sure you look after yourself, and take our advice in the times you get bored. Joblessness doesn’t last forever, so try to make the most of it while you can.
