It seems no matter what type of job you go for, there is always a long line of applicants fighting for the same position. Whether you want to work in business, retail, hospitality, or construction, standing out from the crowd can be tough. Thankfully, there are ways you can boost your employability and make employers take notice. Here are a few things you can do today.

Spend Time Improving Your Skills

Whoever the employer is, they will look for a host of transferable skills in candidates. These include knowing how to communicate effectively, being able to work well under pressure, and understanding the importance of teamwork. One way to develop such skills is by taking an eLearning course. There are eLearning courses from iHASCO that can help you develop skills, expand your knowledge, and get you off to the best start possible when job hunting.

Shine Up Your CV

If your CV is looking a little dated, it’s time to get it up to scratch. After all, when applying for jobs online, this document is the first thing employers will see. You want to create the best first impression possible, so take time to make your CV stand out for all the right reasons. If you aren’t sure what steps to take, there are free CV templates you can use. These are sure to make your CV look professional and appealing to the eye.

Seek Trusted Advice

Navigating through a competitive job market can be tough. If you feel you’re at a crossroads and aren’t sure what moves to make, it’s time to seek trusted advice from the experts. While friends and family can provide some guidance, you need to speak to those who are already in your desired field. They can give you expert tips on how to establish a presence and get employers to take notice of you.

Take Up a Hobby

We all have interests we’d love to indulge in. However, many of us feel we don’t have the time to take up a hobby. If you want to demonstrate a passion and initiative for learning, taking up a hobby will show employers you are always open to learning new things. There are lots of hobbies you can take up and put on your CV. These include learning how to cook, taking up an instrument, or joining a local sports team.

Start Reading

To be prepared for the working world, you need to conduct thorough research into the sector and industry you’d like to join. Make sure to pay particular attention to businesses of interest. You can look at job profiles to see what certain roles involve. Get onto social media too. This allows you to keep up to date with the latest developments within a company, as well as learn of vacancies.

While there is nothing that will replace work experience and internships, they aren’t always easy to seek out. If you are struggling to find a placement, there are many other things you can try out to boost your chances of employment. Taking an online course, altering your CV, and reading more are great actions to improve your employability and get noticed.
