Finding a job nowadays can be quite difficult. In fact, research highlights that only 18% of graduates are securing jobs this year compared to the usual 60% because of the economic fallout caused by the global health pandemic.

Considering the hypercompetitive nature of the current job market, you’ll want to give yourself the best chance of securing a job. However, this can be rather difficult if you didn’t graduate with the best grades. This is why we thought it would be useful to put together a couple of tips regarding job hunting for people who graduated with a 2.2. Hopefully, this article proves to be useful when it comes to helping you get a job.

Research New Industries

Some of you may think that settling for jobs far from what you originally wanted to do is the best option when you can’t find a job. We’re here to tell you that you don't have to start applying to jobs that are different from what you actually want to do. Instead, try to look for the same job in a different industry. By looking for those outside of the employers that are usually associated with that profession, you may be able to find employers that offer entry-level vacancies with more flexible entry requirements.

Apply to Small Businesses

It makes sense that large corporations have stricter entry requirements, which is why you should start considering working for small businesses. While this won’t be as lucrative, this gives you the best shot at gaining valuable work experience. The work experience will then be invaluable when you apply for your next job and should make the entire process infinitely easier!

Build a Network

Building a network is a great way to get your foot in the door because not all businesses have the budget to advertise job openings. By building good connections, businesses are more likely to give you a shot. This is especially if you let them know that you are actively looking for work. It’s in your best interest to attend networking events so that you can build connections effectively.

Consider a Postgraduate Degree

Lastly, getting a postgraduate degree will definitely improve your chances of landing a job. This is because some companies specify that you can forgo their requirements if you possess a postgraduate degree. While some companies specify that you need a 2.1, they will accept a 2.2 if you have a postgraduate degree. However, it’s important to note that not all employers are the same and you will have to find the right one even if you have a postgraduate degree!

Conclusion

In the end, rest assured that your degree grade will not dictate whether or not you get a job. As we have mentioned, there are many different things you can do to make job hunting easier despite having a 2.2. With that, be sure to keep all of this in mind to make your job hunt more successful!
