Compare a central or riverside base with homes nearer the campus or your confirmed workplace. Central convenience and a shorter work journey can point in different directions. For a home outside Inverness, test groceries, healthcare, evening travel and the return commute rather than focusing only on extra space.

Check current local listings of the same size, then add Council Tax, energy, broadband and travel. Highland's shared housing register is a separate route with its own assessment and availability. For any property, confirm Council Tax, waste collection and broadband provision at the address.

Use NHS inform for GP registration. If childcare, school transport or care services are important, investigate them before choosing a home outside the centre. Keep key documents accessible and budget for initial journeys and household setup while your working routine takes shape.
