If you are interested in applying to specific universities then you will receive an invitation to attend an open day. This will give you the opportunity to find out a lot more about the courses that are offered and help you to decide what you want to do, if you haven’t already.

Open days are the preferred way in which to experience the unique student community which you may soon become a part of. They usually take place at least twice during the year and you will be offered the chance to book for your preferred day by registering your interest in attending.

University life can be a very different experience from the life you are accustomed to and you will benefit from knowing what you can access for yourself once you start your new academic chapter.

You will find out first hand about what life is like as a student by interacting with current students, exploring the main areas and departments including all of  the specialised research and learning facilities. You can discover information about the many exciting activities, associations and clubs which will be on offer and that you may wish to participate in .In addition to all of these, you will be able to gain a wealth of information on student wellbeing and all the support that will be available to you. You will be able to address any doubts or concerns about the application process, finances and any other aspects of university life that you are not too sure of.

You will be able to meet the professors and staff who will be more than happy to give you a greater insight into the faculty’s expertise and will offer detailed information on specific courses and the many resources that will be open to you.

Open days provide an early yet essential opportunity for networking and potentially connecting with students who will become your classmates and friends. This way you will not feel as isolated or lonely on your first few days at university.

Student accommodation is often a topic that prospective students are obviously very interested in and you will get the chance to view the various accommodation options. If you are moving away from home for the first time, you need to know that the accommodation will suit your needs and that you will be comfortable and content there.

Tours are usually available of not only the university buildings but also of the local area and this is something that you will find invaluable as well as highly informative. Some students prefer a busy city with lots to do while others will opt for a much quieter and peaceful environment. If you are going to be living in a new town or city, it is imperative that you can spend some time beforehand just familiarising yourself with the area as well as getting a feel for it.

Open days are the preferred way in which to experience the unique student community that you may soon become a part of. They usually take place at least twice during the year and you may be offered the chance to book a time on your preferred day or at least register your interest in attending. The day itself will be informal and very focused upon welcoming you - allowing you to explore the university at your own pace as well as having any concerns addressed or questions that you may have answered.

Of course, not everyone is able to attend the open days so many universities have already taken this into consideration and will offer virtual open days where you can access self guided tours of both the university and the local area!
