Ipswich is a town which lies in the county of Suffolk which is situated in East Anglia, England and is only a few miles inland from the coastline, lying on the estuary of the River Orwell.
The population of Ipswich is around 178,000 with the town being around fourteen square miles. It is a port town with an interesting history and is recognised as being one of the oldest towns in the UK with the town actually having over 650 listed buildings.
Ipswich claims to be the oldest town with a continuous settlement and it has seen much activity during the centuries. The Romans, the Vikings and the Saxons have all left their mark here as well as royalty. The town’s dock was once of huge significance for trade of all kinds of import and export goods from soap to grains. Ship building was also once a major part of the dockyards of the River Orwell and the port remained busy. The port is still in operation today and worked successfully all throughout the recent pandemic. The port has been placed at number one export port for agricultural products over many years. Over two million tonnes of cargo are handled here each year.
Ipswich has a proficient and talented workforce and the area is seen as a thriving hotspot for highly skilled jobs with an emphasis on all technology related industries, health care, manufacturing, financial services and public sector jobs. In 2018, research showed that this peaceful yet dynamic town had the fastest growing economy in all of the UK.
Big investments which were put into the waterfront has definitely paid off as it is now a hugely inspiring feature for Ipswich with the quayside being home to many
bars, bistros and restaurants which host relaxing views over the marina. Several exciting events are held here throughout the seasons such as the popular Maritime Festival.
Ipswich is home to many attractions such as the beautiful Christchurch Park and equally stunning Holywells Park, the fascinating and historic Christchurch Mansion, the Ipswich Transport Museum, plus many more.
The University of Suffolk is a fairly new university, having opened in 2007 yet has proved itself to be not only ambitious but also successful and attracts students from all over the world.
Ipswich is fast emerging into one of the most desirable places to live and it is easy to see why ~ it is a peaceful and tranquil town. One of the loveliest features which is most noticeable in the nearby area of the Suffolk coastline due to its most easterly proximity, is that one can witness the most glorious sunrises before anyone else!
