Join us as a Catering Assistant!
We are recruiting to the Team at St Nicholas Hospital, Gosforth, Newcastle, to work within our friendly Catering Department.
This post is offered at 37.5 hours per week. Shift pattern between 10am to 6pm on a 2 week rota. Week 1 rota includes Saturday and Sunday off. Week 2 rota includes Thursday and Friday off.
Our Catering Teams provide a vital service in our hospitals, keeping patients, staff and visitors fed. You’ll help prepare food, keep our kitchens clean, and serve meals that matter.
Our Catering Teams work in mental health hospitals so you could be interacting with patients which can be challenging as well as rewarding. As a Catering Assistant you might be working in our Cafés cooking and serving meals, or you could be providing food for patients on our wards.
Sometimes our Catering Assistants work behind the scenes in the fridges, preparing and packing food to be distributed across our sites. The work can be challenging at times but we also know that our staff find it rewarding to be supporting NHS patient care.

Essential criteria
An ability to communicate well with others such as other colleagues, clinical staff, or patients
Able to work well as part of a team but also to work unsupervised
Ability to adhere to standards and procedures and to accept and prioritise instructions
Must be able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
Qualifications
Essential criteria
You don’t need any formal qualifications for this job, but a certificate in hygiene is desirable.
You will be trained in food hygiene and health and safety as part of the role.
All jobs will be appointed on the NTW Solutions Limited terms and conditions and not NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions. New starters who are not in the NHS Pension already will be enrolled into a NEST pension.
