This is a full-time, permanent position at 37.5 hours a week, and potential additional earnings from to be made from on-call and overtime work.

This role plays a key part in keeping our hospital sites safe, welcoming and well cared for. You’ll help look after the outdoor spaces that patients, visitors and staff use every day, making sure grounds are tidy, attractive and maintained to a high standard. The work is varied and practical, with tasks ranging from grass cutting and pruning to litter clearing, planting, fencing repairs and winter maintenance.
You’ll use a range of gardening tools, machinery and equipment safely, and help keep them in good working order. You’ll also support planting plans, use materials responsibly, and keep accurate records of the work you carry out. Lots of the work will be outdoors in different weather conditions, so care, judgement and safe working are important.
As part of the team, you’ll help make sure our grounds are safe, accessible and pleasant places to be. What you do will help support better care by creating outdoor spaces that are clean, safe and looked after.
Main duties include:
To undertake the repair, maintenance and inspection of all external grounds and gardens associated with the Trust and its external contracts. This would include grounds and gardens planting materials and equipment in accordance with relevant legislative standards and operational procedures to ensure the external grounds of the site(s) provide a safe environment for patients, public and staff.
Be expected to produce work to a consistently high standard of work across the whole range of duties and applications required.
Shall be prepared to undertake additional training in order to fulfil the requirements of the post, satisfy new regulations/legislation or to further to develop the duties.
To participate in the out of hours and weekend on call rota, carrying out repairs gritting and snow clearing at designated owned or occupied Trust properties. To be flexible in the provision of cover when colleagues on the rota are unavailable (holidays/sickness). To participate in the Estates Department return to work system, this may necessitate returning to work to attend to emergency situations, which can’t be dealt with solely by the on-call craftsman. This will require the post holder to have there contact telephone number made available to the Estates on-call Officer.
