The Benefits of Attending a Careers Fair VS Online Applications

by
Olivia Batten

The world of job hunting can be hard, especially if you’re unsure which route to take or you’ve not had much luck securing interviews. So, what next? Signing up for a careers fair is a great way of meeting employers face to face and could open up many more opportunities compared to online applications.

You can sell yourself to employers

When you apply for a job online your CV and cover letter are the only pieces of information that the recruiter will see. However, sometimes words don’t do you justice. Speaking to employers face to face means you can show off your personality and go into more details about your experience and what you are looking for. Creating a good rapport with people can make a huge difference in being invited for an interview, whereas behind a screen it’s harder to show your potential.

You can ask more questions

When you attend a careers fair you meet the people who matter. Sometimes it can be hard to get answers to the most important questions online but the fair gives you an opportunity to be proactive and talk to a range of employers. It’s easy to skip over an online job listing when you aren’t given all of the details which could mean missing out on the perfect role - that’s where fairs have an advantage.

You have the opportunity to network

Often, it’s about who you know not what you know. Career fairs are great for networking whereas online applications are solely based on what the recruiter sees on your CV. By getting your name out there you can connect with industry experts, be the first to hear about vacancies and make a great first impression.

You can speed up the application process

As a candidate, there’s nothing worse than waiting weeks to hear back from employers. However, at careers fairs, employers are on the lookout for the newest talent and eager to start recruiting. Not only can you leave the event with an interview date in the diary but you could be starting the role much quicker too! At the UK Careers Fair, we’re proud to say that over 28,000 candidates have been hired as a result of attending our event and you could too!

Whether you’re looking for a career change or you’ve recently graduated, the UK Careers Fair is the place to be. We welcome employers from all industries and candidates aged 16-64 to attend our award-winning event. Find an event in your city today.
