Vehicle Technician – Classic MG Specialist
Location: Swavesey, Cambridge
Salary: £18.50–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with regular overtime available
Overtime: 1.5x hourly rate, including Saturday rota (approximately 1 in 6)

Are you an experienced Vehicle Technician with a genuine passion for classic cars?
We’re looking for a skilled Vehicle Technician to join the workshop at the MG Owners' Club headquarters in Swavesey, near Cambridge. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working on classic and specialist vehicles and wants to be part of a well-established organisation with a strong reputation within the MG community.

The workshop is modern, fully equipped and approximately 4,000 sq ft, providing a clean and comfortable working environment. You’ll work on a wide range of MG vehicles, from classic models through to the MG Rover range, including the MGB, MGF, MG TF, ZR, ZS and ZT, as well as occasional work on other classic marques such as Austin Healey, Jaguar, Mini and Aston Martin.

The Role

As a Vehicle Technician, you’ll carry out a varied range of mechanical and diagnostic work, including:
• Servicing, tuning and general mechanical repairs
• Electrical fault finding and diagnostics
• Diagnosing faults and replacing major components
• Carrying out pre-MOT checks
• Road testing vehicles following repairs
• Repairing faulty components where replacement parts may not be readily available
• Removing and refitting brightwork and other components as part of restoration work
• Carrying out occasional servicing and body repair work on newer petrol and diesel MG models
• Liaising with customers occasionally to discuss required or additional work
• Occasional recovery and delivery of vehicles

You’ll have the opportunity to work on a genuinely varied selection of vehicles, with no two days necessarily being the same.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced technician who takes pride in their work and enjoys working on specialist and classic vehicles.
You’ll ideally have:
• At least 5 years’ experience working as a Vehicle Technician within the motor trade
• City & Guilds Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent recognised automotive qualification
• Experience with classic vehicles or within a specialist/classic vehicle workshop
• MG Rover, Austin Rover or British Leyland experience would be highly desirable
• Experience using MG Rover T4 diagnostic equipment would be advantageous
• Additional training such as air conditioning or basic welding would be beneficial
• A genuine interest in classic cars, ideally with an enthusiasm for MGs
• A full, clean driving licence
• Your own comprehensive set of tools
• A reliable, methodical approach and strong attention to detail
• The ability to work independently, use your own initiative and maintain high standards
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in doing a good job and enjoys working with classic and specialist vehicles.

What’s on Offer?
• £18.50–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience
• 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
• Regular overtime available
• Overtime paid at 1.5x your standard hourly rate
• Saturday overtime rota approximately 1 week in 6, 9am–1pm
• Overalls and protective footwear provided
• 21 days’ annual leave plus 8 statutory days
