About the Role
In this role you will work with the marketing team to register and book appointments for new blood donors at a variety of events, including shopping centres and workplaces. You will assist with “What’s Your Blood Type” events where you will perform blood type testing and engage with potential new donors. Your duties at the events will include:-
• Live geographically within 10 miles of the donor centre.
• Be comfortable setting up local events by collecting and returning kits from the central
location and be accountable for the kit by notifying managers when additional items, such
as leaflets or assets, are needed.
• Loading, unloading, assembling and dismantling equipment on a daily basis, including
heavy objects of up to 13 kgs
• Performing blood sampling (finger prick test) on members of the public in accordance with our procedures to produce a provisional blood group type for demonstration purposes only. Full training is provided.
• Keep up to date with latest blood products information and be able to communicate this effectively and succiently to the public and potential donors.
• Offering information to members of the public on donation in general and specifically in relation to their provisional blood type
• Providing reports to line manager on numbers of people seen and signed up as donors to
continually monitor effectiveness of events
• Pack away all equipment and return it to base for the safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste, while also receiving training in basic care and first aid to respond to adverse reactions.
• Act as an ambassador for NHSBT by wearing the plasma/blood mascot at community outreach events (subject to health and safety) and adhering to the appropriate dress code based on the event—formal attire for corporate events (not provided) and branded t-shirts, which will be supplied, for other outreach activities.
You will also be required to work variable hours and days, including evenings, weekend and bank holidays with mutual agreement, and receiving prior notice
