This is an exciting opportunity for volunteers to support individuals across community settings.
As a Community Volunteer you will provide vital, short-term support (either one-off support or up to 4 weeks) to vulnerable and housebound individuals who have no other way to access help. From collecting prescriptions and doing some shopping to offering friendly companionship or assistance in connecting with their local community where you can, your support will help clients regain their confidence and independence.
Role requirements:
Volunteers will only be requested to provide short-term support*. We will contact volunteers who are closest in proximity to the request. Depending on how many volunteers we have in a particular area, we might need to widen the search.
*Any support provided by volunteers beyond what was originally agreed with their Volunteer Co-ordinator will not be covered under Volunteer Cornwallโs insurance.
Due to the flexible nature of the role, volunteers may be asked to help in a range of ways. These could include:
Wellbeing and Social Support: provide companionship through visits or telephone calls, encourage hobbies and interests, and help reduce social isolation.
Practical Daily Tasks: assist with simple tasks such as shopping, collecting prescriptions, supporting confidence with technology (if comfortable to do so), and helping people access community activities.
Welfare Checks: check-in and identify any concerns or changes in circumstances and report these to their Volunteer Co-ordinator. Volunteers may also help identify simple environmental hazards or support needs.
This list is not exhaustive and may include other activities, which could be described as something that a kind neighbour would do.
