It must be very reassuring to have a highly paid job that exceeds £100,000. Some of us can only dream of being paid that much while for others, they make it their reality. In this article I am going to highlight certain jobs within the UK that can offer a salary of this amount. Of course, it is important to note that individual salaries may vary based upon factors such as qualifications, experience, the industry which you are employed and the location you work at so it can not be guaranteed across the board.

Airline pilots who have experience and especially those flying on in demand or specific long haul routes can earn high salaries based upon their responsibilities and the skills they have acquired. It is a highly competitive job and the initial layout costs can be extremely high. Once you have gained the relevant qualifications and flight experience, you can apply to major airlines - all of which have their own specific recruitment processes which usually involve medical tests, simulator assessments, aptitude tests and interviews.

A senior lawyer, if highly specialised, can earn above £100,000 per annum. A newly qualified lawyer will generally earn considerably lower but once you gain experience and expertise then you may find you are in demand and earning a lucrative salary.

A surgeon requires unwavering dedication, attention to detail, an extensive educational background and commitment to further education. Learning is continual and is a lifelong process as it is important to stay fully up to date with your chosen field of speciality. There are various fields of speciality such as plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery and cardiac surgery. Upon completion of chosen specialist training, a consultant surgeon can typically earn in excess of £100,000 within the NHS.

An investment banker provides financial advice, deals with transactions and assists clients with all aspects of corporate finance. They have a hugely varied role and can offer financial analysis and valuations to companies as well as working with debts, equities, mergers, acquisitions and negotiating deals as well as a host of other specialist areas. Salaries in investment banking tend to be higher in London and after working your way up, an investment banker at managing director level can earn anything from half a million pounds onwards per annum!

Software development managers can earn large salaries which can be in excess of £100,000 and are responsible for overseeing and managing the software development within a company, playing a crucial role in all aspects of the software cycle from initial ideas through to marketing.

As you can see, all the above jobs are highly specialised and require many years of commitment and perseverance as well as a huge amount of hard work and a natural aptitude but there are many other jobs that can pay extremely well. Although money is often an important factor when looking for a job, it's equally important that you enjoy what you do and that it brings out your true potential. Money does not always equate happiness. However, determination within any job can often bring about recognition and the opportunity to work your way up - there are always people who start at the bottom and always people who have worked their way up the career ladder - which will bring about a higher salary.
